Overview

This heritage centre is housed in a restored colonial bungalow at the top of Bukit Chandu (Malay for Opium Hill). It honours the 1,400 soldiers of the 1st Malay Brigade’s “C” Company, who fiercely fought against the Japanese during World War II, despite being heavily outnumbered. Through artefacts, maps and interactive exhibits, Reflections at Bukit Chandu recounts how the soldiers from the Malay regiment bravely defended the route leading to Pasir Panjang Village against 13,000 Japanese troops. The only survivor from the Malay regiment, Corporal Yaako, pretended to be dead and managed to escape. The historic event on 14 February 1942 is known as the Battle of Pasir Panjang and took place at a site nearby. Read more on their official website!
